Welcome to East Summit!

The East Summit Association (ESA) was formed by concerned residents interested in keeping their neighborhood and Summit a desirable place in which to live. Our membership includes over 300 families.

Any residents of East Summit with an interest in the present and the future quality of life are invited to join us.  Visit our Neighborhood page to see if your street is on the list.

Check here each month to keep current on all future ESA meetings and updates.

There have recently been multiple home burglaries in Summit residential neighborhoods including East Summit. The Summit Police have a new program to help protect your home. See this Letter from our Police Chief.

Call in those Commercial Vehicles Crowding your Street (Vans, Trucks, etc. with Commercial plates and advertising).  Call Summit police dispatch at 908-273-0051 if you are in a residential zone.  There are some pre-existing condition residences where limited commercial vehicles are permitted, but most are not authorized by the City to park their Commercial Vehicles at home. Your call can remain anonymous.

The new Springfield Avenue sidewalk is now open!  Though it may require some stamina, you can now walk all the way from Broad Street to Downtown Summit via Springfield Avenue without crossing Springfield Ave.

The Park Line is still in progress.  Councilman Rubino gave members of the ESA a tour of sections of the park line path already in place.  A substantial majority of the path covers secluded areas such as the wooded areas between Morris and Broad Streets near Overlook Mdical Center, and lesser known trails off Michigan Avenue reaching to behind the Knights of Columbus.  Concerns about the path crossing behind residential areas are being addressed with plans for fencing and other coverage methods.  The ESA constantly reminds Common Council members to enforce this coverage during construction planning.  The ESA is also aware a valid debate is ongoing among East Summit residences regarding the pros and cons of having a Park Line run through our neighborhoods.

Sanitary Sewer Issues

Summit residents should continue to refrain from disposing of adult and baby wipes, feminine hygiene products, cooking oils or other grease down drains.  Even though improvements have been made, our sewer pipes are still reflective of a 100 year-old system.

Neighborhood Watch

ESA encourages residents to become involved in Summit's Neighborhood watch program. For more information, please contact the Summit Police Crime Prevention Officer Charlie Daly email.

POLICE UPDATE: Several thefts from unlocked automobiles in residential driveways continue to be reported.  Also, there was a home burglary attempt in the area. Please continue to lock your cars and homes. If your car uses a key fob, remove it from the car and store inside your home away from the parked car.

We remain active in the ongoing effort to convert the long abandoned Rahway Valley Rail Line to a Bike and Walking Trail, currently known as the Summit Park Line project.
